LOCKS-DOWN AS HOME HAIRSTYLISTS TREND

- DANA PENDRICK AND JONATHON MORAN

NSW residents are at their split ends with bad hair days, turning to homecut hairdos as the new form of selfcare and family fun.

Taking to your own hair with a pair of clippers started off as a novelty at the beginning of the pandemic but has now developed into a lockdown essential, bringing families together to style each other’s Covid coiffure.

Families, couples and singles have all shared their haircutting experiences on social media, with some people using bright dyes, shaping up frisky fringes or rocking a smoothly shaven scalp.

Professional hairdressers have weighed in with some key tips.

Anthony Nader, of Sydney’s RAW Salon, who has been named Australia’s top hairdresser, is selling at-home kits to customers but also has some general advice.

“Like humans, fringes were not built for isolation,” he said. “They need love, care, a steady hand and a well-trained eye to maintain just the right amount of eyelash-dusting length and fullness.”
