IMAGINATIONS RUN WILD FOR BOOK-LOVING STUDENTS

- RHYLEA MILLAR

CRUELLA de Vil, Queen of Hearts and Willy Wonka’s oompa loompas are just some of the costumes that featured at Toowoomba Anglican School’s Book Week parade.

Year 3 student Charlie Elliott decided to dress up as Tin Tin this year and said it took his mum about a week to put the outfit together.

“I watched the movie first, but then I borrowed Tin Tin the Crab with the Golden Claws book from my grandpa … I think he has the whole collection of Tin Tin books,” Charlie said.

“Next year I might come as Harry Potter because I’ve seen all the movies and the books are really good, but I’ve enjoyed coming as Tin Tin.”

Head of Primary Jason Locke said this week’s activities ranged from scavenger hunts and craft, to reading and the school’s musical production of Madagascar.

“Book Week is one of the most important weeks of the year because it helps kids to understand the importance of reading,” he said.

“The teachers love getting into Book Week too, and the parents go to such a huge effort to develop some amazing and really fun costumes.”

Book Week concludes on Friday and this year’s theme is old worlds, new worlds and other worlds.
