HUB BACK FROM DEAD

- WILL HUNTER DEPUTY EDITOR

JUST when everyone thought it was dead and buried, Toowoomba’s quarantine proposal is back.

Whether you like or hate the proposal, it’s a big move for the State Government to forge ahead with it alone.

I’m sure the State Government’s steadfast commitment to the idea has also been buoyed by the enthusiastic Wagners keen to see a solution to the growing quarantine problems.

It is good to see some finality to the proposal that has remained in limbo for more than seven months.

And after frustrating months of back-and-forth between the two levels of government I’m sure the Wagners are also pleased with the result.

But there are still plenty of questions around the facility and who will actually quarantine there.

Will planes land at the airport? Will there be international arrivals?

“Build it and they will come” – that’s the scant detail the Premier provided on these questions.

Let’s see in a few months’ time.
