FOR decades, Searchers End Secondhand Shop has captured the imaginations of home decorators, bargain buyers and treasure hunters, as its shelves overflowed with relics of times gone by.

Sadly all of that comes to an end on Tuesday when the store closes.

In a statement, the store owners said it was too painful to continue operating after the death of founder Russell McDonald in December 2020.

“It is with this loss that we have made the sad decision to close our doors,” it said.

“It has been a pleasure to be a part of this wonderful place with you all, and we will carry the memories with us always.

“We would like to thank you all for being so caring and understanding during these difficult times.”

The business’s doors have been closed for weeks as staff prepare for an online sale through auction house Grey.com.au. Searchers End launched a closing down auction with thousands of items on offer. It went live yesterday and will run until Tuesday.
