THROWING FOR GOLD

-

FOUR years ago Toowoomba athlete Corey Anderson’s life changed.

Corey was competing at the 2017 International Federation for Athletes with Intellectual Impairments World Athletics Championships when his mother Melissa noticed he moved differently to other athletes.

Later he was diagnosed with left hemiplegic cerebral palsy.

Turning his attention to the F38 world rankings, Corey made himself known to Australian selectors in 2019 at the Australian Athletics Championships.

Corey’s 55.14m throw was a javelin world record – a mark he beat later that year at the World Para-athletics Championships in Dubai while competing on a rolled ankle

Speaking yesterday Corey said he was looking forward to his regular routine the day before any competition.

“I’m a bit nervous but excited as well,” he said. “I’m keen to throw today, do a light gym session and then go over my throwing processes with my coach.”

Corey will throw in the Men’s F38 Javelin final at 12.06pm today.
