Farmer rammed his ute

- MICHAEL NOLAN

WHEN Daniel Teschner woke up to the sounds of someone rifling through his ute he knew it would only be a matter of seconds before they took off with it.

“It was my fault,” he said. “I left my keys in the ignition like I always do.”

Mr Teschner, who was farm sitting for his partner’s family, jumped in his partner’s car and followed the thieves as they backed down the driveway.

He tracked them to Kingsthorpe before they shook him.

“I wasn’t planning on doing much, I just wanted to float with them to see where they were going,” Mr Teschner said.

Like any good neighbour, he phoned farmers along Ciesiolka Road and in the Aubigny area to alert them.

To their surprise the thieves returned about two hours later in Mr Teschner’s Toyota HiLux and stole his neighbour’s LandCruiser.

This second farmer followed the thieves.

“He managed to get them to stop in Kingsthorpe, and they bailed out of his ute and jumped into mine,” Mr Teschner said.

“He had to pretty well ram his own car.”

While the thieves got away, they are suspected to have ended up in Wilsonton Heights.

“A lady from Toowoomba contacted me after she found my wallet in her driveway,” Mr Teschner said.

“I am thankful I got my licence and all my work tickets back.

“All that they kept was my bank card, but they can go as hard as they want with that – I am not that rich.”

The matter has been reported and anyone who sees a suspicious white single cab Toyota HiLux (QLD 638SPG) should contact police.

In the meantime, Mr Teschner said residents in his pocket of Aubigny were taking their security more seriously.

“It shocked everyone who lives on the road,” he said.

They were mind-blown that they came back after being chased out.”

The police investigation is ongoing.
