Eagles make statement to kick-off TRL finals campaign

THEY’VE already added the Madsen-Rasmussen Trophy to their ranks, and now Highfields is firmly back in the race for the major prize.

The Eagles were simply outstanding as they dismantled Warwick 42-4 in the Agrade elimination final.

The big guns stepped up for Highfields with Cory McGrady and Pat Templeman laying the platform, but it was Josh Keoller that stamped himself as one of the TRL’s players to watch, scoring a hat-trick.

PARALYMPICS: It proved to be a rough weekend for Toowoomba duo Corey Anderson and Emily Tapp at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Heading into Friday’s gold medal final Anderson (pictured) was the F38 Men’s Javelin world record holder and one of the medal favourites.

Colombian Jose Gregio Lemos Rivas had other ideas though – breaking Anderson’s record with a 60.31m throw at his first attempt.

Trailing early Anderson extended his mark over his first four but his best (54.48m) was 15cm short of a bronze medal.

A crash in the bike leg bought Tapp’s triathlon campaign to a premature end.

The Fairholme College old girl was competing in the Women’s Individual PTWC which consists of a 750 swim, 20km recumbent hand cycle bike ride and 5km wheelchair ride to finish.

Tapp, who lost the use of her legs in a 2011 campdrafting accident, qualified for the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games but was unable to compete due to a burns injury.
