Quarantine hub

-

I REALISE that this is an exercise in futility, and yet I am driven to write once again on the Wellcamp quarantine hub.

No consultation with the community at any stage has left us with no other way to voice our frustration at the way this issue has been handled.

Despite lack of Federal government support, our Premier has pushed ahead. Could it be that she knows she can’t lose any votes from the district which is as blue-ribbon as they come?

With international passenger planes unable to land in Toowoomba, returning travellers will be bussed in from Brisbane, so if they haven’t already got the coronavirus, they will probably get it on the two-hour trip up the mountain.

Local hospitals, ambulances, paramedics and police are already stretched to the limit. In an area which has been mercifully free from the virus, it is almost criminal to put our community at risk, especially when there is to be a hub near Brisbane airport.

The only comfort I can derive from this pitiful situation is that when an outbreak occurs here, at least we will know who is to blame. The health and wellbeing of our community is beyond price.
