Wattles club theft case dropped

- JESSICA PAUL

A COUPLE police previously accused of stealing about $30,000 from the Wattles Warriors Rugby League Club have had all charges against them dropped in a shock twist in court.

Timothy James Gleeson, 64, and Joanne Waterhouse, 48, each faced one count of stealing and their matter was listed for a hearing in Warwick Magistrates Court.

The case against the co-accused was stopped in its tracks when the police prosecution offered no further evidence against them on Thursday, meaning all charges were dismissed.

Mr Gleeson and Ms Waterhouse previously worked at the Wattles club, and the charges related to the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

The Headington Hill couple was charged in June last year after a six-month police investigation, sparked by a tipoff about “financial abnormalities” from members of the club.

The pair’s matters were mentioned in the Warwick court on half-a-dozen occasions since their initial arrest.
