Why our bridge is lit up purple
VICTORIA St Bridge lit up purple on Monday night to acknowledge International Overdose Awareness Day on August 31.
Drug ARM Toowoomba family support facilitator Tess Heming said the day aimed to reduce the stigma attached to the issue, most of which was faced by the families of the victims.
“(It) is a blunt reminder of the harm that drugs impose on our society and the ripple effect on families,” she said.
“This is a day to collectively remember all those who have died from overdose and to acknowledge the grief of family and friends.”
The Chronicle recently reported on the Breakthrough For Families program that Ms Heming facilitates, highlighting the services available for loved ones impacted by addiction.
