HOCKEY: Preliminar­y and grand finals are the time for the big players to stand tall and be counted.

Toowoomba Hockey enters its penultimat­e week on Friday, with the A1 men and women’s teams looking to book their spot on grand final day.

We look at each team’s Xfactor leading into the business end of the Toowoomba Hockey season.

TATUM STEWART (RANGEVILLE)

A high-level talent who is just as lethal in defence as she is in attack, the 19-year-old can break the game open at any given moment.

The centre back has premiershi­p experience with Rangeville and a vast array of representa­tive honours.

“For a young player she is strong, organised and can dictate play,” coach Elke Swain said.

“Tatum can run with the ball, score goals, defend and hold her own.”

SCOTT RICHARDS (NEWTOWN)

A versatile player for the Tigers, Richards adds a wealth of experience to the Newtown outfit.

Players are able to feed off his energy, and has gamebreaki­ng capabiliti­es in the upcoming big games.

“If he’s having a good game, he’s a bloke that will turn it for us,” player-coach Matt Siebuhr said.

“He has all the skills, is level-headed and can play anywhere.”
