PM’s AstraZeneca threat
AUSTRALIANS over the age of 60 will be told to get vaccinated with AstraZeneca now, or be put at the back of the queue when supply of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines ramp up.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison will next week send a letter to more than 580,000 unvaccinated Australians aged between 60 and 69 to urge them to get the AstraZeneca jab as soon as possible.
“The recent outbreaks of the new more infectious strains of the COVID-19 virus … make it even more important that Australians over 60 get vaccinated now,” the letter reads.
The letter contains no hope seniors will be offered Pfizer or Moderna vaccines any time soon.
“We have expanded the number of community pharmacies who are administering the highly effective AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine around the country … This gives you, your family, and your loved ones more opportunities to get vaccinated,” it states.
Health Minister Greg Hunt and chief medical officer Professor Paul Kelly have also signed the letter.
