YOUNG DINGO ‘EXPLODES’ ON DEBUT

- SEAN TEUMA

CRICKET: If you didn’t know the name Connar Robson, you certainly do now.

The Darling Dingoes sparkplug created a huge impression on the opening weekend of the Brisbane Premierer League U19s.

Robson blasted 72 from 29 balls, including six sixes, to help his side to a big win over the Coastal Marlins.

“I started a bit slow against the good pace bowlers but was able to accelerate from there,” Robson said.

“I took on the spinners in the powerplay and was able to take advantage of that. “I like playing against spin. “This format really suits my game.

“I love the attacking nature.

“I’ve always got plans to go forward and hopefully this platform can take me a bit further.”

The BPL is showcasing talent like Robson, who is proving Dingoes selectors right after a high draft position.

Currently playing first grade cricket for Broadbeach on the Gold Coast, the promising prospect is hoping to continue his form.

“There was a bit of an unknown as to what would happen with the season, but I was just excited to get out and play some cricket.

“It’s a new idea and I think it’s just going to explode.

It’s great to be a part of it in its first year and hopefully I can move into the seniors next year.

“I’ve been playing since I was six and I love the competitiveness and playing with my mates.

“It was pretty daunting at the start only knowing a few Gold Coast boys, but it is good to see some new talent

coming through and meeting some new boys.”

Away from cricket, Robson operates his own business, Gold Coast Maintenance, after finishing school.

“We started six months ago and things are slowing picking up,” he said.

“It’s a pretty good way to keep fit.”

The Darling Dingoes will have their next pair of games this Sunday in Ipswich, against the Northern Kings and Western Power.

The Dingoes vs Power will be shown on Kayo Sports.
