New look for QCWA rooms

-

MEMBERS of Kingsthorpe QCWA Branch are enjoying the fresh new look of their rooms after exterior repainting was completed recently.

The building was formerly the one-teacher school at Wallingford near Pittsworth until 1967 when it became the meeting place for the Wallingford QCWA.

Upon the closure of that branch, the building was relocated to Kingsthorpe, adjacent to the War Memorial Hall, in 1977.

The repainting project was made possible jointly by a grant from Toowoomba Regional Council and a generous donation from Mr Clive Berghofer.

Branch president of Kingsthorpe QCWA Val Mason said her members were very grateful for the financial assistance received for the repainting work.

“Fundraising is an ongoing necessity, but it has become difficult especially because of the pandemic,” Mrs Mason said.

“The cost of this work was quite beyond our normal fundraising projects.

“As well as preserving the history of the building, our rooms continue to be an important asset to Kingsthorpe and District community. The rooms are used twice monthly for our craft morning on the first Thursday of each month, as well as the QCWA meetings on the third Thursday.

A Community Nurse also conducts monthly consultations with expectant and nursing mothers from the rooms.”

She emphasised that QCWA was more than “just tea and scones” and was proud of maintaining a strong social network.

“We invite local women who may be looking for something extra during the confines of the pandemic to join us for our informal craft mornings, or perhaps become members of our branch,” Mrs Mason said.
