NEWS FROM THE PAST
The first Dog, Poultry, Pigeon and Pony Show held in Toowoomba came off on Wednesday last on the ground and under the auspices of the Drayton and Toowoomba Agricultural and Horticultural Society.
The show was excellent, the entries surpassing expectations, while the arrangements were all that could be desired, the weather perfect, and the day a half-holiday, yet the attendance was unaccountably small, not more than 500 at the outside ever being at once on the ground.
The concluding contest comprised a novelty, for Toowoomba, of dogjumping but it was not a success.
Three greyhounds came out to the scratch and cleared the four-feet jump very prettily, but when asked to negotiate a foot higher, they either declined or performed the task in a manner more amusing than satisfactory.
