Battery sparks business fire

- MICHAEL NOLAN

PEAK hour traffic on one of Toowoomba busiest roads was slowed on Monday afternoon as emergency services rushed to a structure fire.

Two Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews were called to Battery World on James Street after reports a battery had exploded.

The heat from the explosion sparked a small structure fire which flooded the building with smoke.

Fireys arrived shortly after 4.30pm on Monday and were

able to get control of the scene within minutes.

A QFES spokeswoman said they remained at the scene until the building was cleared of smoke and the atmosphere

was deemed safe.

Staff had evacuated the building prior to the crews arriving.

There were no reports of injuries.
