Religion keeps people from knowing God

- David Chandler (Church 4350)

“FOR the hearts of this people have grown dull. Their ears are hard of hearing, and their eyes they have closed lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, lest they should understand with their hearts and turn, so that l should heal them.”

Acts 28:27 (NKJV) Religion is man trying, through his own human righteousness, to attain right-standing with God.

Man designed religion to bring him closer to God, but it actually has the opposite effect; driving him further from God.

Religion puffs up man’s pride, thinking in his own strength he can merit eternal life.

Religion hardens man’s heart against the truth of the gospel. The longer a person has been in a religion the further away they are from the truth.

Religion is a barrier that keeps people from God.

But we can pray for the religious person according to Acts 26:18 “to open their eyes in order to turn them from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Jesus Christ”.
