Snoop signals return of international acts
THE last time Snoop Dogg toured Australia, Scott Morrison was Immigration Minister and he had to rubber stamp his visa in the wake of a petition protesting his lyrics.
When the rapper turned business mogul returns to Australian stages next year, it will be as the fun-loving star of a food delivery service campaign.
It will be eight years since The Doggfather last performed here as one of the headliners of the final-ever Big Day Out festival in 2014 when he kicks off his I Wanna Thank Me tour next October.
Tickets for the arena shows in Perth, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane shows in late 2022 go on sale later this week with music fans likely to see longer lags between tour launches and their arrival here because of the pandemic shutdowns.
The constant rescheduling forced by the lockdowns has created a massive backlog of tours and concerts with promoters competing to secure the available arenas for their shows. Most new international artist tours will be pushed into late 2022 and early 2023.
But the Snoop tour announcement signals Australian promoters are slowly, cautiously, getting back into the business of booking future gigs as our vaccination rates climb. Snoop will surely bust out a couple of those sweet Menulog verses which have kept Australians entertained for the past 18 months.
Pre-sale tickets will be available via Telstra Plus from Friday at noon, with general tickets on sale from Monday 13 September, 4pm (local time) at Ticketek.
