KIDS WOULD BE STUMPED WITHOUT CRICKET
THOUSANDS of junior cricketers stuck in lockdown are dreaming of a summer comeback as the governing body sketches out a plan to get kids out of the house and onto the pitch.
NSW clubs are in talks with the sport’s authorities about when they might be able to get kids padded up and out on the field, hopeful the season’s return will coincide with the October return-to-school plan.
The impending cricket season is the light at the end of the tunnel for thousands of NSW kids after the cancellation of winter sports – and Cricket NSW is determined to save it.
“We are optimistic about the season getting under way soon for all the girls and boys of NSW,” Cricket NSW general manager Joanna Scanlon said.
Cricket enthusiast Sophie Mitchell, 11, says just the thought of playing cricket would help to get her through the lockdown. “It’s been hard not being able to play sport with my friends during lockdown. I’ve been playing weekend sport ever since I was little so it seems weird not getting up early on a Saturday and heading to the field,” she said.
