Toowoomba Turf Club set to honour legacies of O’Shea, Katsidis

-

RACING: A group of Queensland’s best race callers will once again gather at Clifford Park this Saturday night in honour of the Toowoomba Turf Club’s late race caller, Pat O’Shea.

A group of six callers will each call a race at this Saturday night’s penultimate meeting to the 2021 Audi Centre Toowoomba event – the first race event of the Weetwood Racing Carnival.

The Club will also honour late jockey Stathi Katsidis with a race named in his honour – the Selected Seeds Stathi Katsidis.

Clifford Park resident race caller and TTC committee member Anthony Collins – who idolised O’Shea – said the club is thrilled to continue the race callers’ tradition.

“We have some of Queensland’s finest callers here. It’s all in honour of the late, great Pat O’Shea” Collins said.

“Pat meant so much to racing across the Downs and this is just our little nod to him.”

Collins, Josh Fleming, Paul Dolan, Ben Hall, Brett Moody and young gun Dan Thomas will call races towering above Clifford Park – including the TAB Race Caller relay, where each will call a leg of one race.

TTC chief executive officer Lizzy King said the race caller medley was an initiative introduced by the club and Collins several years ago.

“It’s become a real highlight for Toowoomba racing lovers and it’s grown in popularity over the years,” she said.

“It also gives the TTC great pleasure to host a race honouring the late Stathi Katsidis and we thank Selected Seeds for their support of this race.

“Stathi’s family and friends will be joining us on-course on Saturday night, so that makes it all the more special.”

Twelve nominations have been received for the Stathi Katsidis, headlined by Hard Judge.
