COONAWARRA KIDS

- REGAN DREW

Coonawarra in the far southeast of South Australia doesn’t get as many visitors as it should (even less in the current climate). Steven and Emma Raidis, of Raidis Estate, are two reasons that a visit to this region is a must. Part of the “new generation” winemakers in the region, they focus on wines that thrive in the region and offer generous hospitality to visitors.

Raidis Estate, Emma, Sparkling, NV

Made of 80 per cent chardonnay and 20 per cent barrel fermented pinot gris. Light straw hue: beeswax, brioche, lemon tart and baked pear. Fine aperitif style with clean citrus, ripe quince hints and a just chalky finish.

Rating: 92/100

RRP: $35

Alc: 12 per cent

Raidis Estate, The Kid, Riesling, 2021

Riesling definitely has a place in Coonawarra. Fleshy lime, feijoa, matcha green tea ice cream and wet sand. This pops with rich, juicy lime flesh and fine slaty finish. Good time riesling here.

Rating: 91/100

RRP: $22

Alc: 11.5 per cent

Raidis Estate, Cheeky Goat, Pinot Gris, 2021

Faint blush in hue. Pear skin, quince, ruby grapefruit and a little bath bomb floral tone. Fresh, vibrant crisp pear slice fruit with zesty acidity. There’s a touch of grip and weight.

Rating: 92/100

RRP: $26

Alc: 13 per cent
