Centre supports plastic ban

- TOM GILLESPIE

A MAJOR Toowoomba shopping centre has started giving out sustainable gifts and vouchers in a bid to encourage shoppers to cut down singleuse plastic items.

Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre owner Eleanor Investors Group will hand out green packs to 50 lucky customers until September 21, with prizes including keep cups, bamboo cutlery sets and reusable shopping bags.

It comes just weeks after the State Government’s singleuse plastic ban came into effect.

Elanor retail and development head Matt Healy said the centre supported the ban.

“By providing our shoppers with sustainable alternatives to plastic cutlery and takeaway coffee cups, we’re contributing and proud to be part of the change towards a healthier planet,” he said.

“We have dived in 100 per cent with this new plan and we will continue to work towards a smooth transition to eliminate single-use plastics.”
