THAT’S A WRAP: ARC ART’S A TRIUMPH
PARIS: A giant sheet of fabric has been draped over the Arc de Triomphe as work starts to wrap the monument in a tribute to the artist Christo, who died last year.
Over the next few days, the entire Arc will be wrapped in 25,000sq m of fabric – the signature of the Bulgarian-born artist famed for wrapping monuments around the world, including the Reichstag.
He had dreamed of sheathing the 50m-high war memorial ever since he rented a nearby apartment in the 1960s.
Christo’s nephew Vladimir Javacheff is overseeing the completion of his vision.
