BOYS, 12 AND 13, USE ‘GUN’ DURING HORROR HOME INVASION
POLICE have revealed two boys forced entry to an East Toowoomba woman’s Cavell Street home, threatened her with a toy gun and demanded the keys to her Holden Astra.
The woman complied with their direction in the early hours of Thursday, September 9 and handed over her keys.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the boys’ age, they could not start the car so they forced the woman to help them.
Senior Sergeant Brent Parker from the Toowoomba Child Protection Investigation Unit said the boys fled in the vehicle and dumped it in Link Street, near Gowrie Creek.
It sustained minor damage.
“Thanks to some assistance from the public we located the offenders in a house and property that was used was recovered,” Sgt Parker said.
This included a cap gun. Sergeant Parker said the alleged armed robbery was a serious matter despite the boys using a toy gun.
“To a person having it jammed in their face at 6am it would have been quite threatening,” he said.
The boys have been charged with a raft of offences including armed robbery and unlawful use of a vehicle.
They will be dealt with under provisions in the Youth Justice Act.
Sergeant Parker said the police investigation continued and he appealed for anyone who lives in the area, or was driving or walking in East Toowoomba near Cavell Street about 6am on September 9 and may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
This includes anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage of a suspicious Holden Astra driven by a pair of boys.
