30 YEARS ON RUN OVER

-

A MAN who allegedly escaped a NSW prison almost 30 years ago by using a hacksaw blade and bolt cutters has handed himself in to police.

Darko Desic, then 35, had served a little more than a year of his three-and-a-halfyear sentence when he allegedly escaped Grafton Gaol on the north coast in the early hours of August 1, 1992.

He had initially been charged with two counts of cultivating a prohibited plant.

Efforts to find him were unsuccessful.

Almost three decades on, the now 64-year-old handed himself into Dee Why Police Station on Sunday morning.

Desic has been charged with escaping from custody.

It’s believed he had been living a quiet life on Sydney’s northern beaches for the last 29 years. He was refused bail in Central Local Court on Tuesday and will reappear on September 28.
