1894 JAMES ANDERSON Australian tennis player

Anderson won the Australian Championsh­ips in 1922, 1924 and 1925. He also won doubles titles at Wimbledon (1922) and the Australian Championsh­ips (1924).

1923 HANK WILLIAMS American musician

Williams had 35 singles (five posthumous­ly) that reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Country & Western Best Sellers chart, including 11 (three posthumous­ly) that reached No 1.

1929 STIRLING MOSS British car racer

Moss won 212 of the 529 races he entered across several categories of competitio­n. In a seven-year span from 1955 to 1961, Moss finished second in the Formula One championsh­ip four times and third three times.

1931 ANNE BANCROFT American actor

Bancroft made her film debut in 1952 in Don’t Bother to Knock. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1962 for her role in The Miracle Worker. She also collected two Tony Awards for her work on stage.

1962 BAZ LUHRMAN Australian director

On screen, Luhrman is best known for his “red curtain” trilogy, Strictly Ballroom, William Shakespear­e’s Romeo + Juliet and Moulin Rouge. Other movie credits include The Great Gatsby.
