The 24 to watch on finals day

- SEAN TEUMA

RUGBY LEAGUE: Grand final day is where the big guns stand up to be counted.

Toowoomba boasts one of the strongest regional leagues in Australia, and to be featuring on the last day of the season gives added prestige.

The Chronicle looks at the young gun, workhorse and X-factor from all eight teams competing on TRL grand final day.

WARWICK YOUNG GUN - NAT WEBB

A winger with speed to burn, Webb has been one of the big improvers throughout the season for the Cowboys.

“She gives 100 per cent every week,” co-coach Terry Gilbert said.

“She’s determined and feisty, and always wanting to improve her game. Nat is super speedy and working hard on every aspect of her game.”

WORKHORSE - KATE SCHNEIDER

A strong influence up front, Schneider has regularly been among Warwick’s top performers in 2021.

“Kate plays as a front rower and travels two nights from Toowoomba every week,” Gilbert said.

“She knows her role in the team, works really hard and is a good defender and good in the ruck. A real team player.”

GATTON

YOUNG GUN - ASHLEA NOLAN At just 17 years old, the Mustangs representative has played wise beyond her years in helping Gatton to reach a grand final.

“Over the last few weeks she has been close to our best,” coach Dom Haak said.

“She’s a young front rower that has gone right through the juniors and she’s pretty experienced for a 17-year-old.”

WORKHORSE - COURTNEY-LEE NOLAN

One of many high-level players in this Hawks outfit, Nolan has taken a change of position in her stride.

“Another local girl that played with the Queensland U19s this year,” Haak said.

“She’s moved from halfback to hooker and has been all class. She gets through plenty of work that is all quality.”
