BRISBANE FAMILY THRILLED BY FIRST GARDEN CITY VISIT

- TOM GILLESPIE

BRISBANE couple Rotsen and Maureen Gregorio and their two children made their first trip to Toowoomba at the weekend — and their experience with the Garden City has ensured it won’t be the last.

“We’re thinking of booking a camping event with the family later in the year,” Mr Gregorio said.

The family were among the thousands of southeast Queensland residents who made the trek up the Toowoomba range to enjoy the third weekend of the Carnival of Flowers.

After exploring the blooming flower displays at Laurel Bank Park on Saturday morning, the Gregorios headed to the CBD to watch one of the carnival’s centrepiece events in the Grand Central floral parade.

After enduring tough restrictions in Brisbane this year due to outbreaks of Covid-19, Mr Gregorio said the day was an opportunity to put the Delta blues to one side.

“For the last 18 months, the kids have not been able to go to an event,” he said.

“This event gave us an opportunity to go out and mingle with like-minded people.

“We weren’t required to wear masks outside, so that was a great relief.

“It made us believe that Covid didn’t exist, even just for a day.”
