INCHES FROM DEATH

Guard rail spears teen’s car in highway crash

- MICHAEL NOLAN

A TEENAGE driver came inches from death when a Warrego Highway guard rail speared her car.

A WOMAN escaped uninjured after her car was speared by a guard rail on the Warrego Highway.

Laidley Acting Officer-in-Charge Sergeant David Grave said the 19-year-old Highfields woman was travelling east when she lost control of the vehicle as she crossed the Minden Range about 6.20am on Monday.

The impact sent the guard rail through the windscreen and into the dashboard, missing the woman by a matter of centimetres.

The woman escaped with only minor cuts and bruises.

Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics treated the wounds before transporting the woman to the Ipswich hospital in a stable condition.

The woman was the crash’s sole causality.

Sgt Grave said the incident could have been far worse.

“She will be a bit sore, but she is very lucky,” he said.

“She was a bit shaken up when she realised how bad it could have been.”
