Total fire ban for region

- MEG GANNON

SOUTH East Region residents are subject to a total fire ban until Tuesday, September 21.

The local fire ban will be in place from 12.01am on September 20 to 11.59pm on Tuesday September 21 for residents in the Logan, Scenic Rim, Ipswich, Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Gold Coast Regional Council areas.

An alert issued by the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services revealed under a local fire ban, all open fires are prohibited and all Permits to Light Fire are cancelled.

QFES officers are urging community members to comply with the rules.

Fires must not be left unattended and a firefighting device such as a garden hose or extinguisher must be available.

Power tools can be used during a local fire ban, however residents are encouraged to use these with extreme care and ensure adequate equipment is available to extinguish any fire. To see a detailed list on what you can and can’t do, go to thechronicle.com.au.
