Bull ride ends in fighting

- MICHAEL NOLAN

POLICE are expected to lay assault charges after two men came to blows at Mulga Bull ride on Friday.

Laidley Police Station Acting Officer-in-Charge David Grave said police were called to the Mulgowie cricket ground after the main event came to an end.

“There were a couple of men who were clearly intoxicated and had an argument that turned violent,” he said.

The event attracts about 1500 patrons, many of whom camp in the cricket grounds.

Sgt Grave said there was a heavy police presence that included mounted officers.

Police issued more than 250 random breath tests outside the grounds and detected nine drunk drivers.

“Most of those were from the following morning when people thought they were right to drive home,” he said.

“I want to remind people to be aware of the chance for an ongoing reading if they have been drinking heavily.”

Police changed one person with a stealing offence and a second with public nuisance.
