Super clinic draws masses

- MEG GANNON

AN IMPRESSIVE number of Toowoomba residents turned up to receive a Covid-19 vaccine at the weekend, with one clinic distributing a week’s worth of doses in just 48 hours.

During the “super Pfizer weekend” on Saturday and Sunday, the Clifford Gardens vaccine clinic welcomed the masses, contributing to a statewide effort to get Queenslanders fully vaccinated.

A Darling Downs Health spokesman confirmed more than 1500 doses of Pfizer were given on Saturday and Sunday.

“A total of 1639 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were provided over the weekend walkin clinic – 832 on Saturday, September 18 and 807 on Sunday, September 19,” he said.

“This was a great response, and we’d like to thank the people of Toowoomba who came in over the weekend.”

Between Monday and Thursday last week, 1640 doses of the vaccine were distributed.

As of Monday, September 20, the clinic will be operating seven days a week from 8.30am to 4pm.

As of September 13, 39 per cent of Toowoomba residents aged over 15 were fully vaccinated, but it’s hoped those numbers will skyrocket following the successful weekend clinic, as well as new regional clinics opening this week.

Darling Downs Health revealed more clinics would open their doors around the region to bolster vaccination efforts.

“This week we are also holding a second dose clinic at the Warwick Showgrounds from 21 to 25 September,” the spokesman said.

“Bookings are preferred, but we do have some capacity for walk-ins for first doses.

“Next week we’ll be at the Dalby Events Centre from 27-30 September for a first dose clinic.

“Again, bookings are preferred but there will be some capacity for walk-ins.”

The increasing push for vaccination comes as Queensland continues to record no new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19.

A total of 56,000 Queensland residents were vaccinated over the weekend.

For those wanting to get vaccinated, the Clifford Gardens clinic is welcoming other residents this week.

“The clinic is open to all people aged 12 and over. We are prepared to provide at least 850 doses per day,” the spokesman said.

“Please ensure you bring a pen and your Medicare card.”
