MEDALLIST BATTLING COVID
AUSTRALIAN Olympian Madison Wilson has been left “extremely disappointed and upset” after she had to pull out of the International Swimming League after contracting Covid-19.
The Tokyo 4x100m freestyle gold medallist tested positive for Covid-19 in Italy before she was expected to compete in the event as a part of the Los Angeles Current team.
“I recently tested positive for Covid and yesterday was moved into hospital for further care and observation,” she wrote on social media.
“Even though I am double vaccinated and took the right precaution set in place through the ISL, I have managed to fall to this virus.
“Covid is a serious thing, and when it comes it hits very hard. I’d be stupid not to say I wasn’t scared. I’m so lucky for all my family, friends and support people.”
Ms Wilson, who was born in Roma, represented Australia at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
She competed in the 4x100 freestyle heat in the gold medal relay team alongside Bronte Campbell, Cate Campbell, Emma McKeon, Meg Harris and Molly O’Callaghan at the Tokyo Olympics.
