Clinic boosts jab rate

MORE than 42 per cent of Toowoomba’s population over the age of 15 is now fully vaccinated.

The newest clinic in Toowoomba, stationed at Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre, has experienced unprecedented numbers of residents walk through its doors since it opened last Monday.

MORE than 42 per cent of Toowoomba’s population over the age of 15 is now fully vaccinated.

Bit by bit, the region is moving closer to the freedoms that were taken for granted prior to 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic hit.

But there’s still a way to go. Darling Downs Health acting health service chief executive Joanne Shaw renewed calls to Toowoomba residents to get vaccinated.

The newest clinic in Toowoomba, stationed at Clifford Gardens Shopping Centre, has experienced unprecedented numbers of residents walk through its doors since it opened last Monday.

Ms Shaw said as the Clifford Gardens clinic continued to operate this week, and it was prepared to distribute 850 doses every day.

“A total of 7330 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been provided since the opening of the new Toowoomba COVID-19 vaccination centre at Clifford Gardens,” Ms Shaw said.

“This has been a great response and we’d like to thank the people of Toowoomba who have come to the clinic so far.

“The clinic is now open seven-days-a-week, 8.30am to 4pm.

“We’re very keen to see numbers of vaccinated residents continue to climb, so the best way to get a vaccination as soon as possible is to preregister your interest at www.vaccinebookings.health.qld.gov.au,” Ms Shaw said.

Across the Darling Downs Health area, more than 61 per cent of eligible people have had at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Ms Shaw said Darling Downs Health was eager to see those numbers continue to climb as more clinics opened in the smaller Darling Downs towns.

“This week we are also holding a second dose clinic at the Warwick Showgrounds from September 21 to 25,” Ms Shaw said.

“Bookings are preferred, but we do have some capacity for walk-ins for first doses.

“Next week we’ll be at the Dalby Events Centre from September 27-30 for a first dose clinic.

“Again, bookings are preferred, but there will be some capacity for walk-ins.”

A new analysis revealed yesterday that Queensland could have 80 per cent of the community aged over 16 fully vaccinated by November 13 if walk-in clinics and “super Pfizer weekends” were to continue over the coming months.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said in her Tuesday press conference there was a risk of Covid-19 coming to Queensland.

“We would have to go into lockdown then we would be fighting to get our freedoms back,” she said.

“I am trying to get Queenslanders vaccinated to protect our lifestyle and to protect our freedom.”
