Backyard cricket bonanza

-

CRICKET star Nathan Lyon wants Aussies stuck in lockdown to break the monotony by signing up to the “biggest game of backyard cricket” next month.

Whether you’ve got a full pitch in your own yard, or simply use a rolled-up pair of socks in the hallway of your home, Australia’s greatest off-spinner wants everyone to find a way to participate in the October 9 promotion that will bring cricket lovers together and inspire everyone to get excited about the summer of cricket ahead.

Lyon (pictured) also hopes it will help people get some fun exercise and welcome mental relief after prolonged isolation.

“Everyone across the state (NSW) is counting down the days until Covid-19 restrictions ease and the start of the community cricket season, so what better way to prepare for both than getting involved?” Lyon said.

“The best thing about backyard cricket is that you can make up your own rules to reflect the space you have at home and the amount of people playing.

“If you don’t have cricket equipment, backyard cricket is about improvising, so think about using a bin or the fence for stumps.”
