Cops, FBI search boyfriend’s home in murder hunt
FBI agents and police have searched the home of the boyfriend wanted for questioning in the death of 22-year-old Gabby Petito, whose body was discovered on the weekend months after the couple set out on a crosscountry road trip.
At least 12 law enforcement officers were seen removing boxes and towing away a car belonging to the mother of Brian Laundrie, the boyfriend of Ms Petito.
It is believed the 23-year-old Mr Laundrie and Ms Petito had been living with his parents in their Florida home before deciding to go on a road trip in a converted van in July.
Police say the young couple got into an argument in August before Mr Laundrie returned to his parents’ home, alone, on September 1. He has since been named a “person of interest”, but has gone missing.
The search of Mr Laundrie’s house follows the FBI’s confirmation on Sunday (Monday AEST) that a body had been found in a US national forest in Wyoming, one of the destinations visited by the pair. The FBI confirmed the remains matched the description of Ms Petito.
“Forensic identification has not been completed to confirm 100 per cent we found Gabby, but her family has been notified of this discovery,” the agency said.
An autopsy was set for Tuesday (Wednesday AEST).
