Water polo ready to make a splash

- JASON GIBBS

WATER POLO: Swimmers Olivia Kemp and Eloise McLoughlin dipped their toes in the “water polo pool” and were instantly hooked.

First introduced to the sport through the Flipper Ball program, the pair are now fully-fledged players.

“We played Flipper Ball at school and I loved it,” The Glennie School student Kemp said.

“It (Flipper Ball) is a modified version of water polo – the biggest difference is you can use two hands and stand up in the pool.

“I’m a squad swimmer and I thought water polo would be fun and good for my health because you’re constantly moving.”

Kemp will join a team in the Toowoomba junior competition and is excited about

the prospect of more water polo.

“I love the satisfaction of seeing my hard work pay off when I learn something new,” Kemp said.

“More importantly though I love water polo because it’s fun.

“I look forward to Tuesday nights because it (playing water polo) is just 40 minutes of fun.”

“I love the team sport aspect of it,” she said.

“Swimming is a solo sport and I wanted to try something different.

“Water polo is fun. It’s fast paced, there is lots of action and I have made some great friends playing it.”
