COMMUNITY groups across the Toowoomba region will share in more than $330,000, after the council endorsed the first round of grants for the financial year.

Councillor James O’Shea said the council’s community grant program gave 56 local clubs and organisations a boost to their valuable services.

“In total, $332,541.17 was approved, which will be a massive help to organisations throughout the Toowoomba region,” he said.

“The community grant program has helped a number of groups over the years. Covid-19 has had a significant impact on our clubs over the past 18 months, so it’s pleasing council is able to provide assistance in this form.”

The program opens to the community two times a year and provides assistance to a range of community and notfor-profit groups.

“Preference is given to applications that fulfil a range of criteria covering community inclusiveness and interaction, a willingness to encourage community partnerships, upgrading facilities or services or establishing a new service, facility or initiative,” he said.

The next funding round opens on February 1.
