New clinics to open

- MEG GANNON

MORE than 7000 doses of Pfizer distributed at the Clifford Gardens vaccine clinic have helped contribute to a statewide push for people to get vaccinated.

Health officials say more than 60 per cent of eligible Toowoomba residents have received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine with a new vaccine added into the mix, distributed by 22 pharmacists across Toowoomba.

Acting Health Service chief executive Joanne Shaw said the health organisation was impressed with vaccine levels on the Darling Downs.

The push will continue this weekend with more clinics opening their doors across the region.

“Our second-dose clinic at the Warwick Showgrounds is open on Saturday, September 25 from 7.30am to 1pm,” Ms Shaw said.

“Bookings are preferred, but we do have some capacity for walk-ins for first doses.

“Next week we’ll be at the Dalby Events Centre from 27-30 September for a first dose clinic, providing the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine.

“Again, bookings are preferred but there will be some capacity for walk-ins.”

The Toowoomba Mosque will also be hosting a vaccine clinic, with no prior registration needed.

The clinic will be happening on September 25 and 26, from 10am to 6pm.

The clinic at Clifford Gardens will remain open seven days a week in a continued bid to protect the community.

Queensland recorded no new local Covid-19 cases on Friday, but health professionals have reinforced the dire need for vaccinations.

“Across Darling Downs Health, more than 63 per cent of eligible people have had at least one dose,” Ms Shaw said.

“The best way to protect yourself, your loved ones and your community is by having your vaccination.”
