Region not ready for storm

- MEG GANNON

FRESH data released following horror storm seasons from October 2020 to March 2021 reveals the Darling Downs was the region that were the least prepared for the storms.

NRMA insurance asked more than 2000 Australians to self-assess their preparedness for wild weather via a score of one to 100, and Darling Downs residents scored just 59.

NRMA Executive General Manager Direct Claims Luke Gallagher said it was never too early to prepare for storm season.

“While it was a mild winter, we’re expecting a wetter than usual spring on the East Coast, so now is the time to be taking practical steps to prepare for storms and wild weather,” he said.

“With many Australians spending more time at home due to the pandemic, we are reminding people to put aside some time to get their home disaster ready before the next storm hits.

“This gives you the best opportunity to protect your loved ones and property from a severe weather event.”

Data shows 55 per cent of all home claims between September 2020 and 2021 were the result of storms or hail.
