COVID PUPPY CRAZE IS SPOT ON
THE dalmatian is bounding out of obscurity in a Covid puppy craze, 60 years after the breed was made famous by Walt Disney.
Dalmatian breeder Deborah Harbin said she had been inundated with people interested in adopting one of her pups.
“There has been a massive increase in demand since last year with Covid, I’m getting four to five inquiries every day,” the Wollongong breeder said.
Ms Harbin put the surge in demand down to the lockdown, with buyers looking to inject the playful energy of the lanky breed into their households.
She said the dalmatian was the perfect dog for anyone looking for a companion while working at home and exercising each day.
“We always say a dalmatian is like an athletic labrador – they’re a fantastic family dog, they love people and are a great companion for anyone working from home,” Ms Harbin said.
“They need lots of exercise, they love to run and go for long walks.”
The Crous family from the Sydney’s North Shore welcomed one-year-old Jasper to their family last year.
“He’s our first dalmatian and he’s been an absolute treat,” Louis Crous said. “He’s such a social dog to have around and a great family companion as well.
“I have an only child and my daughter just loves having him around.”
