Aviation technology

-

IN A rehearsal for the Brisbane RAAF Airshow, a C-17 plane was filmed by onlookers on the ground appearing to weave through Brisbane CBD skyscrapers.

The footage was posted online and spooked many viewers in the US, where it brought back terrifying memories of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Such a stunt would be banned in the US, according to a US Air Force C-17 pilot there.

But the plane was actually following the Brisbane River as it weaves through the city, so in fact the footage is a perspective illusion that makes it appear that the plane is ducking in and out of skyscrapers.

While we love our RAAF pilots and crewmen, it doesn’t pay to frighten folks too much with what the aviation technology can do.

I would urge caution in the future. DAVE FREDERICKS, Toowoomba
