MARATHON EFFORT TO HELP SICK MUM

- JESSICA PAUL

A WARWICK man, who is determined to help his mum make a full recovery from an arduous cancer battle, will push himself to his physical and mental limits alongside his mates.

Labourer and up-and-coming rugby league star Mitch Wilson will

tackle his first marathon next month to raise money for treatments for his mum, Kimmy.

What began as tingling and numbness in Kimmy’s hands and feet soon turned to three bulging discs and two lymphoid tumours in her spinal cord, which required immediate surgery to prevent spreading.

After surgery, Kimmy couldn’t move her right leg.

“They said that if it doesn’t come good in the next two years, I will be in the wheelchair for the rest of my life,” she said.

While NDIS enables her to access some physio, it isn’t enough to cover the number of sessions she needs.

It was this gap that inspired Mitch and his friends to turn the marathon challenge into a fundraiser.

“The longest I’ve run so far is about 20km, but we’ve been training pretty good up until now.”

Mitch and his three mates will tackle the marathon across Redcliffe on October 16.
