Kingaroy man on charges for arson

- HOLLY CORMACK

A KINGAROY man ran for the police station after allegedly setting a car on fire, in a bizarre turn of events.

At 11.15pm on Thursday night, the 20-year-old allegedly doused a car parked outside a Youngman St address in petrol before setting it alight, Kingaroy acting officer-incharge Brett Smith said.

The suspect ran away on foot as the owner of the vehicle discovered the blaze and extinguished it with a garden hose.

Police later found an empty jerry can nearby.

The man then ran to the station where he was charged with arson of a motor vehicle.

He is due to appear in court at a later date.
