Charges over child assault
An 18-year-old Lockyer Valley woman will face the magistrate in October charged with the violent assault of a two-yearold girl.
Officers from the Laidley Child Protection Investigation Unit charged the woman on Tuesday with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm.
A spokesman for the unit said police would allege the assault caused multiple injuries that were serious enough to warrant hospitalisation.
The offences came to the attention of police after friends and family of the young girl raised concerns for her welfare.
Police launched an investigation two weeks ago and it is ongoing despite the initial charges.
The woman was bailed to appear in the Gatton Magistrates Court on October 18.
