Strong results on QRL weekend

- SEAN TEUMA

RUGBY LEAGUE: It’s been billed as the biggest weekend of league in Queensland’s history, and locals have played their part.

Highfields/Roma duo Mackenzie Zeller and Katelyn Collie featured for the Country U17s in their 22-20 win over City at Moreton Daily Stadium, Redcliffe.

Zeller made 13 tackles in her 40 minutes of action, along with 38m and 15 post contact metres from four runs.

Collie finished the game with nine tackles and 16m gained in 26 minutes.

The boys weren’t able to achieve a similar result, with City prevailing 52-20.

Goondiwindi’s Trae Bennetto was switched to fullback after being named in the halves, with Toowoomba’s Joseph Currie in the centres.

Bennetto had a mixed outing, with a goal and a sin bin, as well as six tackle breaks from eight runs.

Currie didn’t see much of the ball in his 36-minute stint, making five tackles in the game.

Jordan Lipp will represent Toowoomba on grand final day, after he scored a double for Townsville as the Blackhawks demolished the Sunshine Coast Falcons 54-12 in the Colts U21s.

Highfields junior Sam Elara scored first in the second preliminary final for Redcliffe, but it wasn’t enough as the Dolphins fell to Wynnum-Manly 32-22.
