CROQUET CLUB FORMS SPECIAL BOND WITH KIDS

- SEAN TEUMA

IT’S an unlikely partnership that has resulted in a seriously cute outcome.

After a visit by school children, the Toowoomba Croquet Club has linked with the Glenvale Men’s Shed to construct small mallets for children.

“We were really pleased with the visit, and the club enjoyed having the children from Toowoomba East. We thought we could improve things for the next visit,” TCC president Phil Nuttall said.

“We thought it would be a good idea if we involved another service club in the district to help us provide enough small mallets to suit a class of children.

“The Glenvale Men’s Shed was happy to make some for us, and now we’re all set up for the next visit. The members really enjoyed having them over.”

With many members grandparents themselves, Nuttall said it was a great opportunity to connect with the region’s youth through sport.

“Most of us are grandparents so it was lovely to have the children over,” he said. “Some of them asked why the teachers are so old. It’s great for the children, the kids have a great day trying all different sports.”
