CHILD SEX CASE TRIAL DELAYED

-

A WESTERN Downs man accused of child sex offences has failed in a bid to have his trial moved to Ipswich.

Appearing in Dalby District Court in handcuffs, the 41year-old man stood charged with three counts of indecent treatment of children under 12 and one count of rape.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was represented by barrister Frank Martin, who asked the court to change the venue of his client’s pending trial to Ipswich. Mr Martin later said the prosecution had not agreed to move the trial from the Western Downs, and instead asked for the matter to be adjourned to an upcoming sitting.

Judge Dennis Lynch adjourned the trial for mention for October 28 in Toowoomba, with the man remanded in custody.
