Religious figure on sex counts

- PETER HARDWICK

A TOOWOOMBA religious figure charged with child sex matters has had his case adjourned in the city’s Magistrates Court.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared beside his solicitor Yazdhan Sameer for the brief mention of the matters and to plead guilty to breaching a condition of bail.

The court heard part of the defendant’s bail conditions required him to report to police, but he had arrived late for one of his appointments.

Mr Sameer said his client had worked late and slept through the reporting time.

The man has not as yet been required to enter pleas to the child sex charges which include two counts of rape, three of indecent treatment of a child under 16, two of possessing child exploitation material and one count of making child exploitation material.

No details have as yet been aired in open court.

Magistrate Howard Osborne fined the man $100 for breaching bail, the conviction not recorded, and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on November 3.
