New at-home care model

- MEG GANNON

REGISTERED nurse Liz Jackson knew early in her career that she wanted to dedicate her life to making the lives of others better.

With a passion for caring for the elderly and for people with a disability, Mrs Jackson brought a service to the Darling Downs that would prioritise outstanding customer service and bringing joy to the lives of her clients.

Along with her husband Harry, the pair opened Nurse Next Door Home Care Services in Toowoomba, an innovative model of home care to improve the quality of life of clients by connecting them with activities that fulfil them.

“We believe age and disability should be no barrier to happiness,” Mrs Jackson said.

“Nursing is about providing a therapeutic care approach, and it’s been difficult at time within health care sector.

“I have been looking for an opportunity to grow a quality home care service that I’m proud of.”

Nurse Next Door was first developed in North America before arriving in Australia in 2019.

The Jacksons are leading the rollout of the business

throughout Toowoomba and the surrounding regions such as the Somerset, Lockyer Valley and Ipswich.

The team will also be extending to the Sunshine Coast in the coming months.

One particular concept coined by Nurse Next Door, their Happier Ageing philosophy, is revolutionising inhome care across the aged

care and disability sector.

“We like to find out what our clients used to do and find ways to re-engage them with those things,” Mrs Jackson said.

“We will do anything it takes to inspire and empower people to stay in their own homes.”

The Jacksons work hard to match their caregivers and

clients with similar interests to ensure their customer base get the most out of their experience.

Since opening on September 1, the Jacksons say they’ve been overwhelmed with positive feedback.

“Its’ been wonderful,” Mrs Jackson said.

“We’ve had a very positive response.

“We’ve had very satisfied clients which makes us feel amazing, we’re extremely proud of our team.

THE NURSE NEXT DOOR TEAM OFFERS A FREE CONSULT PRIOR TO COMMENCING SERVICE WITH NO OBLIGATIONS, AND HAS A 24HOUR CALL CENTRE SO CLIENTS AND STAFF CAN REACH A “REAL PERSON” 24 HOURS A DAY.
